Information About Our Clinic
We are a community based, non-profit, community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We are staffed by five lawyers, a Community Developer, and two support staff.
We provide legal advice and representation to residents with low income of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, who meet our financial eligibility guidelines. If eligible, there is no charge for our services. We do rely on those who are able to do so, to reimburse us for legal disbursements, such as medical reports.
Our major areas of practice are:
- Residential tenancies
- Income maintenance (Ontario Works)
- Disability issues (ODSP, CPP)
- Human Rights
- Employment Issues
- Employment Insurance
- Consumer Protection
Although we do not practice in the area of criminal or family we are able to make referrals to lawyers and services that assist in these and other areas of the law.
In addition to providing legal advice and representation we also:
- support the development of local community groups that advance the rights of low income and marginalized people in our community
- provide legal information in the various areas of law that we practice
Our clinic is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected annually from and by our Clinic members. Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a member of our clinic or if you are interested in participating in any events or campaigns that our clinic is involved in.
You can also join our email list to ensure that you receive information about events in the community that the clinic is involved in.
